Design tokens, not themes

A small rant about why "dark mode toggle" is the wrong abstraction.

"Dark mode" is a feature flag for a single token: the surface color. Everything downstream — borders, text, accents — should derive from that, not be re-themed.

A token is a contract

A theme is a substitution. Tokens scale; theme substitutions break the moment you add a third surface.
